Depart from our base at St Arnaud, Nelson Lakes Ntl Park ( other locations on request) we’ll take you off the beaten track to visit a historic and deserted coal mining town and to a bush lodge on the West Coast where you have the option to walk an historical trail, kayak in the river, fish or just relax in the outdoor bathtub. Driving on the next day to Karamea our off the beaten track trail takes you up to unique limestone arches which are best reached by 4WD vehicle and then short walks through native forests. Staying two nights in Karamea there’s time to stroll along the beach with it’s pounding waves and to watch the famous West Coast sunset. Leaving Karamea by plane it is a short plane flight over the Kahurangi National Park back to Nelson/St Arnaud or over to Golden Bay where you have the option of combining this tour with the Havens of Golden Bay tour.
